 Ossy Ardiles

Osvaldo Ardiles (born August 3, 1952 in Córdoba, Argentina) is a football coach and former midfielder who won the 1978 World Cup as part of the Argentinian national team.
  • He won 63 caps for Argentina's national team, including the victorious World Cup winning squad of 1978.
  • Osvaldo Ardiles won the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982 and the UEFA Cup with Tottenham Hotspur as a player.
  • Promoted Swindon Town to old Division One (now Premier League) in 1990 as manager although the team were relegated for financial irregularities.
  • Promoted West Bromwich Albion to Division One as manager in 1993.
  • Won Nabisco Cup with Shimizu S-Pulse as manager in 1996.
  • Won Tokai Cup with Shimizu S-Pulse as manager in 1996 and 1998.
  • Champion J-League First Stage with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2000 as manager.
  • Emperor's Cup Winner 2004/2005 with Tokyo Verdy 1969 as manager.

 Han Berger

Han's responsibility as National Technical Director is to bring world best practice to the technical development of talented players.\

Berger joined FFA from Dutch premier league club, De Graafschap, where he has been Director of Football for the past four years.

He has a long and distinguished coaching career including head coach of several other Dutch premier league teams such as FC Utrecht, FC Groningen, Fortuna Sittard and Sparta Rotterdam.

Berger is also a former director of youth teams for the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) and head coach of the Dutch Olympic team, and had a stint as head coach of J-League club, Oita Trinita.

Berger will oversee, but not coach, all national youth teams and work closely with national youth team coaches as well as developing emerging elite level coaches. He will also collaborate with the National Women's Coach and Women's Technical Director, Tom Sermanni.

 Darren Burgess

Darren is currently Head of Sports Science for Football Federation Australia as well as the Socceroos Fitness Coach. Darren has previously worked as Head Fitness Coach at Port Adelaide Football Club and assistant fitness coach with Sydney Swans in the AFL, as well as head fitness coach with the Parramatta Power in the National Soccer League. Darren has also worked with the Australian Olympic Soccer Team prior to the Athens Olympics. Darren worked as a lecturer in Exercise Science at Australian Catholic University in Sydney between 1997 and 2005 and is currently completing his PhD in movement analysis of AFL and Soccer.

 

 Alistair Edwards

Alistair Edwards is a football coach and consultant. A former Socceroo, he took part in Australia's 1994 and 1998 World Cup qualifying campaigns. He has served as head coach for the women's Young Matildas and is currently the FFA's Development and High Performance Consultant.

 Erich Rutemoller

Chief Instructor of the German Soccer Association (DFB), Member of the DFB Competence Team
In the German Football League (Bundesliga”) he has coached the 1st FC Köln and Hansa Rostock, as well as SC Bonn. Rutemöller has played for Borussia Rheine 08, SSV Köttingen, the 1st FC Köln amateurs and Florida International University (Miami). Since 1994 he has also worked for the German Football Association (DFB).


On July 1st 2000 Erich Rutemöller took over from Gero Bisanz as head coach in the training programme for people working towards their DFB football coach licence. Since April 2003 he has coached Team 2006, which was founded in January 2002 as a “team with perspective” to support the first national team.
Due to his expertise, his inside knowledge and great sense of humour he is one of the most sought-after speakers on the subject of football. 

Erich was a popular presenter at the Inaugural FFA National Coaching Conference.

 Tony Franken

HEAD GOALKEEPER COACH FOR ALL AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TEAMS As Goalkeeper Coach of the Australian national football team, I coached the goalkeepers through the 2007 Asian Cup tournament including the 6 match AFC qualification campaign where we won our group. In addition I was Goalkeeper Coach to Guus Hiddink at the 2006 FIFA World Cup including our qualification campaign from 2004-06. Coached in approximately 100 senior international matches between 2000-2007 (goalkeepers include Mark Bosnich, Mark Schwarzer, Zelko Kalac) ,with approximately 50 matches at Olympic & youth team level. I have now had senior coaching experience on the international stage since 2000, including memorable wins against France & Brazil (2001),England (2003), two Confederations Cup tournaments (2001 & 2005), and two Olympic Games (2004 & 2008) and FIFA World Cup 2006

As National Goalkeeper Coach for the FFA my role consists of coordinating all Australian Goalkeeper coaches for all National teams , monitor all goalkeepers in under age national teams, identification of potential national team keepers, administer coaching feedback to all national Training centres and have implemented a National Goalkeeper Profile for elite programs.

 Dr. Istvan Gorgenyi

World champion, Olympic silver medallist and Olympic gold medal winning coach, Dr Gorgenyi is a professional coach and group and family therapist with a unique understanding of getting the best performance out of teams. His theory on group dynamics and performance, The Hunting Territory® is the culmination of a life's work building peak performing teams. He has successfully implemented the coaching and management applications of his theory across cultural, language, professional and sporting environments for three decades.

A published author and highly experienced workshop presenter, Dr Gorgenyi regularly holds workshops for corporate and sporting bodies. Focusing on the practical side of achieving optimal team performance, his workshops have been extremely well received by businesses, institutions and sports groups alike. Additionally Dr Gorgenyi is a regular presenter at the Melbourne Business School Mt Eliza Centre for Executive Education.

In addition to his sporting achievements, Dr. Gorgenyi worked for 12 years in psychiatric clinics as a social worker, group and family therapist in Hungary.

 Michel Hordijk

Michel Hordijk worked for professional club, NAC Breda (Holland) for two seasons before moving on to FC Utrecht (Holland) where, as a skill trainer, he is involved with all the teams of the club, from the U12 up to the professionals of the first team.

In 2008 Hordijk worked for CSKA Moscow where he brought all his knowledge and experience as a skill trainer to the Russian coaches, so they would have more tools to help develop their players.

Michel has his own Football Academy where the aim is to enhance the influence of the Coerver philosophy on the Dutch amateur department , and to help coaches and players to develop themselves, regardless of their talent and level.

Since 1988, Hordijk has coached at several amateur clubs where he used a lot of the Coerver exercises in his sessions. He has always been confident in the Coerver training method and it’s underlying philosophy , due to the improvement in the development of his players.
                                                                                                                                                                                           
Hordijk has presented his training method in countries such as Belgium, England, Denmark and the USA. The main aspects of this method are passion, creativity, atmosphere, match related skills and a very individual approach.

 Mauricio Marques

Mauricio is a Consultant for Escola Braasileira de Futebol, as well as a member of the Coach Education Department of Brazilian Football and Clube Atletico Mineiro.

He has his Masters in Sports Science and significant experience in International Futsal and Football.

 Tom Sermanni

In his second stint as the head coach of the Australian Women's National Team, Sermanni’s coaching career in both Men's and Women's professional football has taken him all over the world, including stints in Japan, USA and Malaysia.

In 1994, he started his first stint as head coach of the Women’s National team – the Matildas – guiding them to the 1995 FIFA Women's World Cup. He stayed on as coach till 1997, before heading to Japan to take on a head coaching role at J-League club Sanfreece Hiroshima.

He returned to coach Canberra Cosmos in the NSL in 1999 for several years, before getting lured to the USA by the first ever Women’s Professional League – WUSA – and was appointed as an assistant coach of the San Jose CyberRays (2001-02) and then Head Coach of New York Power (2002-03).

With the demise of the WUSA in 2003, Sermanni had a short stint in Malaysia, before returning at the end 2004, to take up the post for a second time as the Matildas coach, guiding them through to the final of the 2006 AFC Women’s Championship (lost on penalties to China) and ultimately a place in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China.

At the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup he led Australia to the quarter finals after they finished second in their group behind Norway. Beaten 3-2 by eventual finalist Brazil, in what was one of the games of the tournament. Australia's displays surprised many and Sermanni's astute coaching saw his name linked with several high profile coaching jobs. However Sermanni has decided he has unfinished business with this Australian team.

 Ron Smith

Ron is currently working as a consultant to FFA as the technical analyst for the Socceroos and was the assistant coach to the Olyroos in Beijing in 2008. He was the Technical Manager for FFA between 2004 & 2006 and was responsible for scouting and analysis for the Confederations Cup and 2006 World Cup as part of his overall role. After the World Cup Ron took the position of Head Coach at Perth Glory until November 2007.

Ron has worked across all levels of football in a career spanning 34 years of full time coaching. He was one of the founder coaches at the Australian Institute of Sport and spent ten years as Head Coach between 1986 & 1996 from which numerous players have progressed to the Socceroos and professional football careers in Europe.

Following the AIS he coached in Malaysia for seven years winning the "M" League and reaching the Malaysia Cup final with Sabah in 1997. After four years in club football Ron was recruited by the FAM to direct all Coach Education Programs, develop the youth Academies throughout the country and a centralised "AIS" style national academy in KL.

Ron's contribution to Coach education and development of the game has been recognised by the Australian Coaching Council and Football Australia. He has a current FFA and UEFA "A" Licence and is an FFA and AFC Instructor.

 Pim Verbeek

Pim was appointed coach of the Qantas Socceroos in December 2007. He came to Australia after many successful years with the Korea Republic (South Korean) national team, firstly as an assistant coach under Guus Hiddink and Dick Advocaat and then as head coach. He took Korea to 3rd spot at the 2007 Asian Cup finals.

 Jan Versleijen

Jan Versleijen is the head coach of the Young Socceroos and the Australian Institute of Sport's football program.

Versleijen has previously coached at club level in the Netherlands, Japan and across the Middle East, whilst his experience also extends to the Dutch national set-up, where he previously oversaw the under-17 and under-23 teams.

Jan has the important role of preparing players for not only the A-League but also the Socceroos of the future. The current group of players involved in the national under-20 men's football program are expected to feature heavily in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics, the 2011 and 2015 Asian Cups and 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
